"Joseph Cuculi"
CHANNING - Joseph F. Cuculi, 90, of Channing, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Joe was born Sept. 14, 1912, in Channing, son of the late John and Jovanna (Blazavich) Cuculi. He was a lifelong resident of Channing and was a 1931 graduate of Channing High School. He married Mary Alice Tobin on Sept. 14, 1946, and she preceded him in death on March 17, 1992. Joe owned and operated Cuculi's Bar in Channing for more than 40 years, retiring in 1978. He was a lifelong member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing, a lifetime member of the Sagola Sportsman's Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 168 for 56 years and the 40 et 8. He served on the zoning board for Dickinson County and was on the Sagola Township Board for more than 30 years. Joe loved to play cards and bowl. He spent endless hours with his grandchildren and they were a very big part of his life. He was an avid supporter of everything in the Channing community. He coached baseball for many years in Channing.
He is survived by a son, Patrick (Sandie) Cuculi of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; a sister, Elizabeth Kothanek of Chicago; two grandchildren, Mike (Nancy) Cuculi and Michelle Cuculi (Mike Pfannenstiel), both of Sturgeon Bay; a sister-in-law, Carol Fontana of Channing; a brother-in-law, Mike Tobin of Green Bay, Wis.; two step great-grandchildren, Alan and Michael Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was also preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Leonard; and two sisters, Millie Olson and Marge Namen.
Visitation will be held Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. George Kuppayil will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Channing Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing.
Pallbearers will be Mike Cuculi, Mike Pfannenstiel, Roy Ross, Ken Frey, Tim Olson and Clayton Olson.
