Larry D. Blumer, 71, of Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at his home.
He was born on June 7, 1940, in St. Clair, Mich., son of the late Fred C. and Mildred A. (Hill) Blumer. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Taylor University and his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.
Larry married Rhoda Jean Parker in Detroit on March 14, 1964, and spent more than 47 wonderful years together. He was hired by General Motors and retired in 2000 after 37 years as a design and management engineer in Flint, Mich.
Larry moved to the area in March of 2009. He was a member of Family Baptist Church in Kingsford. He was very active in Baptist churches as a song leader, choir director, violinist, Sunday school teacher, and deacon.
Some of his hobbies included building wooden ship models, collecting antique guns and clocks, and camping with family.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Rhoda Blumer of Kingsford; sons, Aaron D. (Marilyn) Blumer of Boyceville, Wis., Adam D. (Kim) Blumer of Iron Mountain, and Aric D. (Jamie) Blumer of Pearisburg, Va.; daughter, Andrea J. (John) Koenig of Milton, Wis.; brothers, Wayne (Joy) Blumer, David (Darlene) Blumer, Paul (Lisa) Blumer, and Roger (Ruth) Blumer;
11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Nancy Blumer.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will follow Sunday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Aaron Blumer will officiate.
Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ft. Atkinson, Wis.
Larry's sons and brothers will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in his memory.
Gifts will go toward the Answers in Genesis Noah's Ark project.
