WILSON - Bruce E. Carlson, 69, of Wilson, formerly of Pelkie and Hardwood, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, after a lengthy illness at his family's farm where he grew up in Hardwood surrounded by his family.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1939, in Norway, the son of the late Einar and Eleanor (Sipchen) Carlson.

Bruce grew up in Hardwood. He was a woodsman and a welder, and had worked on the pipeline between Wisconsin and Ohio. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a knowledgeable outdoorsman. He also enjoyed trapping, cooking, gardening, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Roddy) Carlson of L'Anse; his son, Samuel (Connie) Carlson of Gwinn; four grandchildren, Madison and Courtney Bianco, and Kristine and Zachary "J.B." Carlson; one brother, Michael "Rat" (Sandra) Carlson of Hardwood; six sisters, Margaret (Courtney) Dahn of Felch, Millie LaPointe of Helps, Donna (Larry) Dillabough of Gladstone, Kay (Jon) Meaver of Springboro, Pa., Linda Carlson of Gladstone, and Patty (Bernard) Kleikamp, a special friend, Rose Roberts of Wilson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Carlson and a brother, Wayne Carlson.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. (Central time) at Mission Covenant Church in Foster City.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the church. Rev. Carl Hammer will officiate.

Burial will be in the Foster City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
